University of Calabar Ex-students want colleague as next UNICAL VC

Former students of the University of Calabar (UNICAL) have said they want an alumnus of the university to become the next Vice Chancellor as the tenure of incumbent, Prof James Epoke, elapses.

The Alumni Association urged the institution's governing council, the National Universities Commission and relevant bodies to allow an alumnus to take over from Epoke.

According to the National President of the association, Barr Ugoji Nwabueze, an alumni of the university could bring development to the university if given the opportunity.

"We are appealing that an alumnus become the next vice chancellor because we have so many qualified persons who have the university at heart in the association," he said.

Nwabueze noted that the union's members have contributed positively to the socio-economic and political growth of the nation and could replicate same in the university.

He identified lack of hostel accommodation, learning facilities among the challenges facing the institution.

Bill Gates' 5 keys to success

Microsoft founder, Bill Gates, is widely known to be one of the most successful men in history and his fortunes don't seem to be dwindling at any rate, despite being toppled from the top of the Forbes Richest Man In The World list.

Here are 5 of Mr. Gates' tips for success secrets.

1. Think and write down ideas that come to your mind. To succeed, one must always find time to do clear thinking. You can choose a comfortable and serene place away from noise and any form of distraction. While doing this, be sure to write down every and any idea that comes to mind for reference and guidance purposes.

2. Start today - Now is better. Time, they say, waits for no man, so as you get those ideas, be sure to act on them immediately. Procrastination never solves anything.

3. Study the competition. One of Mr. Gates' proven methods is to visit the sites of his competitors and see how he can improve on what they are doing. Knowing what your competitors are up to keeps you in the game and helps you step up your game as well.

4. Make the Internet you base. The internet is the new media, hence, you must have some sort of focus on this platform to be able to make it in business. Focus your ideas on building solution that will help in the future and the Internet can help you judge that.

5. Rely on new technology. Depending on the area of expertise or field lin which your business is based, be sure to always make use of the most current technology available in that segment as that will give you the opportunity to have first hand information and services relevant to your field.

MY LIFE: MY BRAIN!!!

What am I most thankful about?

 MY BRAIN...

Thant's right! No one knows my brain better than I do, what's brewing in it every second...

 I can't even tell ya...

 Where do I begin.

I'm amazed at what my brain can do.

I'd never know if I never exercised it.

Now I know My brain can do pretty amazing things...

I'm even intimidated by this fact. So intimidated it's paralyzing.

My brain also drives me crazy. Sometimes I wish to unplug...

 But I can't I just can't. It'll be the death of me... Don't worry...

If none of this makes sense That makes the two of us.

If this makes sense That makes the two of us.

7 Irritating characters Nigerian ladies display that every guy detests

Agreed, women are a unique bunch, they should be loved and taken care of, but that is not an excuse to display some unacceptable behaviours.

Ladies, there are some things you do that really irritate guys, but they will not tell you. They just do not want to hurt your feelings. Today is that day of reckoning.

1. When you want your guy to meet up to a particular standard all in the name of love. Do not try to change him. If you do not love him the way he is, dear, please look for a puppet.

2. The number one need of a man is respect. So, when you try to boss him around, you lose points. Guys prefer to date a “razz” girl who respects them, than the “toosh” queen that’s bossy.

3. “I will die for you” only exists in movies and music lyrics. Girl! Get a life. Give him some space. Stop hanging around him every time. “Take style form busy sef.” You look cheap when you’re all over him. His friends will not even accord you much respect.

4. Your boyfriend is not your ATM, neither is he your father. He is not your source. A guy wants a financially independent woman. That is not to say he should not give you gifts once in a while. Respect yourself. Earn your own income. He will respect you for that.

5. Gossips spread bad blood. It is a bad habit. Please do not display it outside.

6. Be real when you are around your guy. Do not try to keep up with the Joneses or the Alabas.

7. You think you are being classy when you talk down on people. You are just showing him that you are inconsiderate. Guys desire compassionate women who have a heart for less privileged people.

Wedding Cake trends for the bride and groom

Wedding season is upon us and for many brides-to-be across the country, thoughts are turning to organising the all-important day. As well as selecting the dream dress and choosing the flowers, finding the perfect wedding cake is crucial.

But these days it's not as simple as going for a multi-layered, plain, white number with a miniature bridge and groom on top - there's a whole host of new types of cakes out there, from cupcakes to pork pie cakes or even those made of cheese. A look at some of this year’s hottest wedding cake trends and style put together to inspire you.

Pie Cake

Fruit cake, Victoria sponge, cheesecake and profiteroles have all been piled into towers to create wedding cakes.

But there's a new contender to grace the top table: the pork pie cake. For those looking for a more savoury option, Pork pie cakes are perfect for the centerpiece of the buffet. Alternatively, they're also great for the evening reception for the guests who may have missed the cutting of the cake in the day.

The meaty feast can be garnished with some fresh leaves, herbs, fruits and vegetables, and is perfect for a country wedding.

Super Modern

For the couples looking for something very contemporary, wedding cakes are becoming increasingly modern. For lovebirds looking for unique statements in elegance and simplicity, M&S's bauble chocolate wedding cake may be just the ticket.

Sleek and cool, the all-white offering comprises five chocolate cakes, smothered in chocolate ganache and chocolate icing, hand-finished with six tiers of sparkly white hoops and baubles.

Cheese Cake

If you're looking to make a visual statement and save yourself some pennies by combining your wedding cake with your cheese course, the cheese cake is the perfect option.

Like the pie cake, the cheese cake is perfect for a buffet style wedding reception and makes a great centre piece. Fresh sliced figs, green grapes, walnuts and pears are visually effective and they can be added to make a tasty accompaniment to cheese.

The cake can still be cut by the bride and groom and when partnered with bread, crackers and a dollop of chutney, and it will mop up the wine and keep energy levels up so your guests can dance all night long.

Metallic
Metallics, more specifically an art-deco, vintage Hollywood look, are very in vogue and can give classic cakes a contemporary edge.

A metallic look is becoming increasingly popular thanks to its ability to adapt to any style; gold gives an opulent effect, while silver is much more fresh and modern.

If golds and silvers are too glitzy for your liking, a smattering of sparkle dusted over your cake will add a glamorous and decorative sheen without overpowering the whole design.

Naked Cakes

The traditional wedding cake is typically frosted with white icing, but if a new trend takes hold, it's about to get a serious make-under. More and more brides are opting to serve 'naked cakes' - pared-down creations that forgo an outer layer of buttercream so that the texture of the cake and the colors inside are put on show.

To add a bit of intrigue, the cakes are often decorated with flowers, fruits, pretzels, cookie crumbs and chocolate chips.

Thanks to their name, one might assume that naked cakes are less complicated than their frosted counterparts. But, in fact, their preparation takes quite a bit of skill.

Indeed, bakers need to pay more attention to the colours of the filling and the cake when making a naked cake, since they will have to look good together. The old saying, 'It's what's on the inside that counts' certainly applies here.

So whether you hate frosting or just love the rustic vibe of naked cakes, this bare confection is a happy medium.

Multiflavoured Layers

Many bride and grooms are cutting costs by skipping the dessert course and giving their guests a slice of cake for pudding instead. So, as well as looking great, wedding cakes now have to taste extra delicious too; that's where multiflavoured cakes come in. Not everyone likes sponge cake so you could opt for a lemon sponge tier, on top of a chocolate one, with a fruit layer added in too.

Chocolate

Chocoholics - and there's plenty of them around - are beginning to jump on the chocolate wedding cake tradition. Whether you opt for dark or white chocolate, there are plenty of melt-in-your-mouth choices for serving chocolate cake on your special day.

If you don't want a choc-tastic cake, you can opt for a sponge cake with chocolate frosting instead, or you can try a white chocolate cake garnished with sweet red fruits.

Ombre

Whether it's hair or nails, the ombre effect is having a real moment this year - and the trend has translated onto wedding cakes, too. Ombre cakes are the perfect option for indecisive couples who can't decide between a colour or flavour.

The multi-tonal sweet treats are ideal for showcasing your color scheme and adding an unexpected twist to your reception d├ęcor. The soft fading effect and merging of bold and pastel shades looks super chic - especially for a summer wedding.

Floral

When it comes to a wedding, you really can't go wrong with flowers - and the more edible, the better. Brides can opt for edible flowers - rather than fresh, real ones from their bouquet - atop a cake.

Cupcakes

Cupcake wedding cakes are becoming increasingly popular because you can offer your guests a selection of flavours and presentations while making sure that each gets their very own sweet treat.

Whether it's all-butter sponge with vanilla frosting, all-butter sponge with raspberry frosting or chocolate chip cupcakes with chocolate frosting and chocolate sauce, this option offers something to suit the tastes of all of your guests.

As well as tailored flavours, cupcakes and their casing can be decorated to match your wedding colour scheme and even be decorated with personal messages, names or pictures. Cupcake towers offer an extra sweet offering and you can use different coloured icing to incorporate your theme. If you want to create a dramatic effect without having a five-tiered cake, you could opt for one tier and place cupcakes on top.

Plus, guests can each take a cupcake home, so it doubles as a wedding favour.

All things bright and beautiful

The cake is the pinnacle of every bride's reception (as well as countless photo opportunities) so adding a hit colour is the perfect way to make a statement. Bold and bright cakes are having a moment this year and really create a visual impact and break up neutral colour schemes.

A white wedding may be tradition but why not add a splash of colour via your cake?

The cake is the pinnacle of every bride's reception, and almost every guest snaps a photograph of it - especially during that all-important cake cutting moment - so adding a hit of colour is the perfect way to make a statement.

Buttercream

Thanks to the ability to easily flavour and colour buttercream, it's the go-to option for many brides and grooms. Buttercream, which is smooth in texture, spreads easily onto any cake and can be scattered with decorative flowers and glitter.

If you don't want to use buttercream on the outer layer of your cake, using it within each layer keeps it moist and flavour some

Public Holiday Social media day

Proponents of the Social media day say they would want the Social Media day, which is celebrated annually on June 30th, to be made a public holiday.

They made this call online, while speaking on preparations for the special event.

Social media has changed the face of communication and brought a whole new meaning to friendship and community.

According to mashable, Social Media day “is a day set aside for us to step back and truly recognize the impact these tools have made on our lives.”

Mashable came up with the innovative idea of mapping out a day, to celebrate and highlight the various ways in which Social Media has impacted our generation, first in 2010.

It has since grown to be a globally celebrated event. Watch out for the programme of events for this year’s Social media day. Hopefully, our President will declare it as a public holiday. Keep your fingers crossed. It might just be a dream come through.

Here are the 37 NYSC State Secretariats, Addresses, Emails,P.O BOX and Phone Numbers

One of the ways the government hoped to archived the needed "united, strong and self-reliant nation" was to establish a scheme that would bring interaction between the people of the different groups in the country, the youths especially.

That birthed the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) "to inculcate in Nigerian Youths the spirit of selfless service to the community, and to emphasize the spirit of oneness and brotherhood of all Nigerians."

The purpose of the scheme is captured on the Corps website:

"The NYSC scheme was created in a bid to reconstruct, reconcile and rebuild the country after the Nigerian Civil war.

"The unfortunate antecedents in our national history gave impetus to the establishment of the National Youth Service Corps by decree No.24 of 22nd May 1973 which stated that the NYSC is being established "with a view to the proper encouragement and development of common ties among the youths of Nigeria and the promotion of national unity."

How Men Expect A Lady To Dress For The First Date

The last time we gave some insightful ideas to the women on how we expect them to dress up when we take them out on dates. A Lady is expected to be  appropriately dressed, comfortable, and unique in their appearance. We shall give some insightful ideas to the ladies on how we expect them to dress up when we take them out on dates and also give the ladies a sneak peak into our thoughts and ideas as regards to what we want them to look like.

Enhance your best features
Obviously, ladies want to make a good first impression on the first date through their appearance and composure. It is also important to note that enhancing your best features will be to your advantage as that would diverge our attention from some undue seriousness of the first date to your attractive features. More so, you would feel good if we constantly take our eyes to that enhanced feature that attracts us. Showing of your cleavage may entail you wearing a low cut top or if it is your legs you want to show off, a short skirt would definitely enhance them.
However, we want your trousers or skirts to have a nice fitting i.e not too tight or loose. Opt for colours that complement your skin. If you’ve got large hips, go for dark trousers or skirts and light coloured shirts, if reverse is the case, it can be alternated. Darker shades of colours always conceal features and would be a good idea if you’re uncomfortable about a particular area of your body. Bright colours on the other hand can be used on areas of your body that you’re cool with and needs enhancing.

Be Stylish
Perfection is not a requirement to have on a first date, but being stylish in your own way counts. We expect that your hair would be nicely made and not rough and we can’t seem to tell much about your makeup, so it wouldn’t matter much if you have it on or not. The most important thing is that whatever you decide to put on flatters your natural beauty and is evident to us that you put in a bit of effort.
Style your hair. If you want to do a new hairstyle, test drive it the night before to make sure you can pull it off. Otherwise, go with one of your usual hairstyles. Amp it up a bit by adding a cute headband or clip, or by adding a little more volume than normal.
We all know most ladies can’t do without makeup, but make sure it’s one you’re used to having on so that you don’t look different from who we expect. Make sure that it is simple and not heavy, go for a look that will flatter your facial features and draw us closer to you.
We expect clean and well manicured nails even though it is not compulsory to have them coated. You can have them matched with your outfit or your lipstick but ensure the ones on tour nails are not chirped as that might send the wrong statement. In all, allow the makeup and polished nails flatter your features.

Be Clean
This is very important for everyone as your being clean and presentable will be a huge plus in the book of good first impressions. Try as much as possible not to look like you haven’t taken your bath in days or like one that came out of bed straight to the date. Appear like one that actually thought of what to wear and how to appear. Try and take your bath a few minutes or hours to the date so you can appear fresh. This will entail planning well so as to meet up with the schedule. If there is enough time, you can have a manicure or pedicure some hours before the date, so we can have the idea you really did put in a lot of effort.

Take it easy with the perfume
It is a good thing to wear your favourite perfume or spray as you would smell nice to everyone around. But remember that not everyone might like the particular fragrance you enjoy or being choked by it. We want you to smell nice but we don’t want our sense of smell to be overwhelmed. To avoid over spraying, dab a little on your wrists, behind your ears, neck and cleavage. This would help reduce the chances of choking anyone around. Body sprays also require a few squirts and a good idea is to point it away, spray and walk directly through the mist formed. This helps to drastically reduce the spray on you and at the same time helps you get just the right non choking odour.

Lastly, remember to be confident and comfortable as we also want to be relaxed around you. Hopefully, you can build on the first date to something more solid.

MOBOfree Records That More Than 44% User Are From Nigeria

www.mobofree.com  is one of the leading African social marketplaces, today announced that it had experienced an increase of more than 44% in the number of registered users in Nigeria over the past 12 months.
With 4 million registered users, out of which are over 2 million monthly active users in Nigeria, who have posted over 500, 000 active listings, the platform claims that it saw a 1042% increase in the number of classifieds published on the service, making MOBOfree one of the largest and most successful classifieds platforms in Africa.
According to Cristobal Alonso, CEO and co-founder of MOBOfree, the company entered African markets with a unique concept of connecting social networks and classifieds together in a single platform. That strategy seem to be paying off for the platform as evidenced in its substantial growth experienced in recent times.
While noting that the online classifieds market is rapidly growing across Africa, one of its biggest challenges is trying “to convince people of the value of using the internet to buy, sell or swap items and services”.
It doesn’t help too that African countries have their own different cultures, different internet subscription rates, mobile and smartphone penetration. So there’s need to develop an individual strategy for every African market.
And that’s what MOBOfree is doing

Meet the World's Most Identical Twins

This Identical Australian Twins who share the same bed and boyfriend and are never more than a few metres apart, have been named the The Latest World's Most Identical Twins after taking Japan by storm.

Anna and Lucy DeCinque who have spent over $250,000 on the same cosmetic surgery procedures to ensure they look identical, fascinated the producers of a Japanese television prank show who discovered them on YouTube.

The 28-year-old's from Perth in Western Australia, who were born just one minute apart, were invited to fly over and participate in the show which saw them playing tricks on the public and competing against a Japanese set of twins who simply couldn't compare to their extreme measures.

After even a computer failed to spot the difference between Anna and Lucy, the duo embraced the title of the World's Most Identical Twins.
'It's been proven in Japan and they did the challenges and we proved we are the world's most famous identical twins,' they told Channel Seven's Sunrise'It's a great tag line for us.'
The women also revealed some of the daily measures they go to in order to maintain their similarities, including eating the same type and amount of food and never leaving each other's sight.
When she gets full, I'm full as well. When she stops eating, I'll stop eating,' they said, adding: 'We want our bodies to look the same; we want to weigh the same.We are never more than a few metres apart, wherever my sister goes, I go as well. We follow each other.'We argue every day, but over little things. It's natural… but we get over it. We're best friends so we never want to lose each other.'

They also touched on some of their more extreme measures, including the hundreds of thousands of dollars they've spent on cosmetic surgery procedures including lip fillers, breast implants and fake eyebrows and eyelashes.
'We've always been identical from an early age, we just wanted to get the same procedures because we want to do everything together and we want to look exactly the same,' they said.
Anna and Lucy, who live at home with their mother, also share a boyfriend, which they believe is a perfect situation for a relationship. Though the two have had separate love interests before, they have always been brothers, or at least best friends.

When asked about the difficulties of sharing the one boyfriend, the twins responded with 'it works easier for us'.

'We've had separate boyfriends in the past and it hasn't worked, but now it's much easier and its great.'We're with each other 24/7, me and my sister; it's just easier to share a boyfriend because we're always together.'It's not really weird to us. We have one boyfriend and all three of us share the same bed. For guys, in their hearts and dreams, they want two girlfriends,' Lucy said.

'We have the same taste in everything, so obviously we're going to like the same boy too. We're all together when we have sex, and if we like the same guy, so be it. Every date had to be a double date. It's always double or nothing.'
