University of Calabar Ex-students want colleague as next UNICAL VC

Former students of the University of Calabar (UNICAL) have said they want an alumnus of the university to become the next Vice Chancellor as the tenure of incumbent, Prof James Epoke, elapses.

The Alumni Association urged the institution's governing council, the National Universities Commission and relevant bodies to allow an alumnus to take over from Epoke.

According to the National President of the association, Barr Ugoji Nwabueze, an alumni of the university could bring development to the university if given the opportunity.

"We are appealing that an alumnus become the next vice chancellor because we have so many qualified persons who have the university at heart in the association," he said.

Nwabueze noted that the union's members have contributed positively to the socio-economic and political growth of the nation and could replicate same in the university.

He identified lack of hostel accommodation, learning facilities among the challenges facing the institution.
