Imo Gender Affairs Commissioner Highlights UN Resolution on Women Status Across the Globe.

      The Commissioner for Gender Affairs and Social Development , (Barr) Mrs Ngozi Njoku at the weekend disclosed some of the key decisions taken at the just concluded 62nd session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women across the globe, where Imo women whom she represented at the all-important event were mostly affected. Briefing newsmen on the outcome of the international event on the return from the headquarters of the Commission, New York City, USA, the Commissioner who hinted that the session held annually had offered women from all over the world the opportunity to assemble at the headquarters which Nigeria is a member to deliberate on issues affecting them. The Commissioner who was led in the Nigerian delegation by the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Senator Aisha Al- Hassan was accompanied by the duo of Imo State Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Barr (MRS) Alma Eluwa and President of National Council of women Society, said it became expedient considering the key role of the Media in the society to disclose the outcome of the event to ensure Imo women in particular were in tune with the issues concerning women globally. Barr Njoku stated that the apex Women Assembly as its resolution, deemphasized the preference for male gender and advocated for a law of equal opportunity, noting that such discriminatory practices adversely affect the women. The Assembly, the Commissioner said, further harped on the importance of Gender mainstreaming in decision making process and budgeting. She reported that the Violence Against Persons (VAPP) law was prominently discussed, where she observed the Assembly frowned at several horrific cases of violence against women. Also, the issues bordering on battering and rape were discussed and condemned according to her, Nations and States were urged to pass the law criminalizing the action, so to that offenders could be meant to face the full weight of the law, adding that to achieve such goal, her Ministry will soon launch toll free numbers to enable victims of Violence call for help. Making further disclosure, Mrs Njoku Said the Assembly advocated for establishment of Information Communication Technology (ICT) centres, Access to Health as well as Government universally encouraging Constitutional Provision for family inheritance by girls. Other decisions include, discouraging and stamping out Female Genital Mutilation, early girl child marriage, while the Assembly was quoted to have emphasized on the need to giving girls access to quality education as enshrined in the Child Rights law. The female Commissioner who was supported at the parley by Senior staff of the Ministry including Director Women Affairs , Mrs Meg Obi, Director Child Development, Mrs Pat Nsofor praised the Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha for his free education and Gender friendly policies which she averred lifted the status of Imo women since the inception of Rescue Mission administration, expressing delight that such feat recorded by Governor earned him commendation at the Assembly, as Mrs Njoku applauded Nneoma Nkechi Rochas Okorocha for her supportive role in State among other achievements in the state. The Commissioner therefore promised to partner with Nneoma Okorocha to implementing summary programmes generated from the United Assembly.

MOST 6 INTERESTING MOMENTS FROM HEADIES AWARD 2016




1.Kcee and Harrysong Made Up:
When Harrysong’s Reggae Blues was announced as the Song Of The Year, something interesting happened. Harrysong came up stage to receive the award all by himself. But, media personality and model, Uti Nwachukwu, who announced the category winner, teasingly asked Kcee if he won’t join Harrysong on stage. A somewhat embarrassed Kcee who collaborated with Harrysong on the track agreed to receive the award alongside his former label mate. He handled the situation quite well and said,  “We been dey fight, but it is all settled,” as he was accepting the award. The duo later showed up to present the award for Best Recording (Male), which was won by Shaydee.

2. Wizkid ignored Eva Alodiah’s fiancé:
Tagged the most embarrassing moment at the 2016 Headies, Star Boy, Wizkid, totally ignored Ceasar(Sarz) who was his former producer and the fiancé of his fellow artiste, Eva Alodiah. It all began when Wizkid was announced as the Artiste of the Year and was making his way to the stage. He walked towards Eva who was seated with her fiancé. Ceasar(Sarz) stood up to hug Wizkid but the latter snubbed him and hugged Eva who was sitting down instead. He then moved on to shake the person seated next to Eva leaving Ceasar(Sarz) looking like a mannequin.

3.Yaw, Sound Sultan and Ushbebe embarrassed Mizz Kiss’ manager:
When veteran rapper, Illbliss was announced as the Best Rap Single award winner, a certain gentleman came out to collect the award on his behalf. Just as he made to announce that he was standing in for Illbliss, radio presenter, Yaw, grabbed the microphone and said, “We no even know who you be o?” Quite embarrassed by the question he responded saying, “Oga Yaw I be Mizz Kiss manager o”. The audience burst out into laughter.
When Sound Sultan and Ushbebe later came out to present an award which illbliss also won, the same guy made to receive the award on his behalf. Sound Sultan said, Abeg who you be?” He responded saying, “I be Mizz Kiss’ manager na! Sound sultan then asked, “Where is Mizz Kiss? Mizz Kiss is he really your manager? Make I give am? Are you sure? Because this award fit no reach illbliss hand.”

4.When Eedris Abdulkareem flung Eddy Remedy’s hand:
One of the high points of the night was a performance by a pioneer Nigerian hip-hop music group, The Remedies. It consisted of Eedris Abdulkareem, Tony Tetuila and Eddy Remedy (also known as Eddy Montana). While the group was performing Eedris’ hit single “Jaga Jaga, Eddy Remedy placed his right hand over Eedris’ shoulder but Eedris flung his hand. Quite an embarrassing moment, a smart Eddy Remedy carried on as though nothing happened.


5.When Wizkid snubbed Mizz Kiss’ manager:
Mizz Kizz’s manager appeared to be the butt of jokes at The Headies. He was seated beside Wizkid and was expecting a handshake but StarBoy snubbed him. It was quite obvious because the singer did shake all the popular faces who were seated  around him.


6.Heavy weight personalities missed the event:
This year headies got us almost bored when the heavy weight artiste were absent. These artistes in the likes of Mavin Crew, Tekno,Olamide, Timaya and African most famous blogger Linda Ikeji

Calabar International Trade Fair: CLIQIT, Cross River State Government to hold a week long event.



The Calabar International Trade Fair project is a consortium led by CLIQIT in partnership with the Cross River State Government of Nigeria to develop local content by establishing cross border synergies.

This Trade fair will showcase 10,000 vendor project, consisting 2,000 vendors from Nigeria, 3,000 from the rest of Africa and 5,000 from the rest of the world, aims to empower African entrepreneurs through bridging technological gaps, developing local business strategies, championing strategic investments and creating access to markets towards developing the African continent.

The project will:

Generate about N2.billion and N5 billion in revenue for the state and federal govt. respectively
.
Train up to 5,000 new locals in the 6 geopolitical zones in Nigeria (for a start) in fields such as technology, agriculture, renewable energy, manufacturing, arts & craft through its skills acquisition programs in partnership with different state governments.

Match African entrepreneurs with their counterparts in related sectors for investment and to enable them trade technologies/strategies for business growth throughout Africa.

Businesses Shut As Cultists Renew Killings In Calabar (Temple Run Calabar South Version)

Its getting bloody by the day as people have to run at any slight commotion " Temple Run Calabar South Version" thereby crippling businesses and the local economy. "The attack which reportedly claimed the lives of two policemen and one cultists also saw two police patrol vans belonging to Cross River state security outfit, Operation Skolombo burnt"







Many businesses in Calabar, the Cross River State capital, were closed on Wednesday as a result of the fear of renewed violent cult killings in the city



Shops and offices in the business hub of the city on Bedwell Street, Bassey Duke Street, Nelson Mandela Street, the Watt Market among others were shut in the wake of incessant shootouts in the area that have characterized the cult clashes.
About 10 persons have been reported killed in various areas of the city since Sunday, when the fight broke out.
On Tuesday evening, a policeman was killed and two security vehicles set ablaze when they were attacked by a group of cultists.
In the early hours of yesterday two men were shot dead in their homes along 8 Miles in Calabar.
Addressing reporters yesterday, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Administration), Tunde Gbonlarumi, holding brief for the Commissioner, Jimoh Ozi-Obeh, said on Tuesday at about 9pm, over 60 suspected cultists engaged the Atakpa Division of the Nigeria Police and other areas in Calabar South.
According to him, the cultists were engaged in a serious gun battle. In one of such gun battles along Bogobiri by Queen Duke Streets, two of the cultists were shot dead and one of them captured alive, he said.
In another development along Nkwa Street by Eyamba Street, he said men of the S-Squad who were carrying out a joint patrol with Operation Skolombo on that same Tuedsay evening were attacked by the cultists and after a heated gun duel, one policeman, Inspector Edem Archibong died. Another officer, Inspector Obonhga, was also shot but survived and is responding positively to treatment in a hospital, Gbonlarumi said.
He said a total number of eight suspected cultists have been arrested in connection to the crimes. He said they will be charged to court expeditiously at the end of their investigation.
He also said a woman was abducted in her home along Satellite Town by four gunmen also on Tuesday, but was rescued by the effort of the police, who locked all escape routes. When the kidnappers realized they could not escape with the woman, they dumped her and her vehicle, which they tried to escape with and disappeared.
He warned criminals that they will not be spared as the police is committed to smoking them out and ensuring the face the wrath of the law.
He urged law-abiding citizens not to be afraid, as they police would do their best to protect their lives and property.
The policeman also called for the cooperation of the media and general public to check criminality, as security is everybody’s business.
The last time there was a cult clash in the city was about three months ago when over 30 persons were killed in the brutal clashes.
